Organising regular events for all members of the firm is pretty much synonymous with the Liedekerke approach 'we work hard but play hard as well'. A number of events such as the Liedekerke Summer Event, the Liedekerke After Summer Event, the Liedekerke Revue, our regular afterwork drinks throughout the year, ‘brain maniac’ breakfasts in the firm, etc… are recurring events that allow us to connect with each other more outside the professional working environment which obviously has a positive impact to the cooperation in the office as well. Soak up the cool atmosphere that is strong at these events by watching some after-event movies.

Liedekerke is one of the largest independent law firms in Belgium. We are a full-service law firm covering more than twenty specialist areas, whether the need is for advice, transactional work or dispute resolution. Since 1965, Liedekerke has represented international and domestic businesses – from start-ups and private companies to major listed companies and multinational corporations – as well as financial institutions, governmental bodies and intergovernmental institutions. With over 120 lawyers, our goal is not to be the largest firm but to be the firm of choice for clients who require trusted advice and innovative and business-aware legal solutions. Each of our practice areas is highly regarded, and our lawyers are recognised for their commitment to our clients’ interests. We look after our clients with energy, creativity and dedication. In turn they value our intellectual agility, business-aware approach and capacity for innovation as well as our utmost integrity and human qualities. We cherish that character and aim to maintain it. That’s why we are constantly on the lookout for students, talented graduates and experienced associates as well as professionals who share these values and ambitions.

The Shared Values

What values does Liedekerke Law uphold as a work environment?

A human approach: working in a competitive industry like ours can have a lot of strange effects on people. What makes it successful is that colleagues always interact in a human way, with respect and a willingness to help each other, despite the high pressure they sometimes face.

Inquisitive, personal and professional growth: Liedekerke is the ideal place to master the legal profession and to apply the necessary skills as a professional. Outstanding lawyers and talented professionals see mentoring junior lawyers and professionals as their mission in the firm. Everyone is strongly encouraged to receive continuous education, and the firm's own Liedekerke Academy also offers a range of courses that contribute to this goal.

Embracing a feedback culture throughout the firm:

Giving and receiving feedback in a constructive manner plays an important role, on the one hand, in the efficiency of collaboration among each other but, on the other, also in the pleasant and motivating atmosphere in which this can take place. For this reason, since several years, we have introduced a project around implementing a feedback culture in the firm. This involves, on the one hand, learning to know oneself better and, above all, being aware of one's own drives and pitfalls and, on the other, also being aware of the drives and pitfalls of the colleagues with whom we work most closely so that we can take them into account and get the best out of the collaboration.

An inclusive workplace starts with opening up to listen to other voices. Our data is not currently in line with society's population composition. We are aware of this as an organisation and are taking very concrete steps to change this because companies must take significant responsibility in the endeavour to a society that embraces each and every one. Our motivation here is not to give a nice picture based on 'nice' data, our motivation is mainly to make sure that everyone feels welcome in the firm and gets the opportunities to build their professional career.

Concrete actions we take:

  • in 2019, we set up a two-year diversity action plan in collaboration with Actiris. With the plan, concrete actions were and are still being taken that contribute to the creation of a work environment in which a workforce characterised by diversity contributes to the success of the firm and all her members;

  • in 2019 the firm became a founding member of the Legal Diversity & Inclusion Alliance. This network consists of some 50 national and international law firms that have offices in the Brussels region and that work together to place and promote diversity & inclusion in the legal sector higher on the agenda, for more information visit https://legaldiversityalliance.be;

  • in 2020, the Gender Equity Unit was established in the firm, this is a task force consisting of about 30 members of the office (lawyers, members of the support services, gender-, ethnic- and age diversity, etc...) who meet on a regular basis to develop specific projects aimed at improving gender equity in all and more specifically senior positions within the firm.

The earth is our home and thus that of Liedekerke Law. That companies should dwell on their ecological footprint when carrying out their activities is undeniable. Liedekerke is therefore working hard to take care of its home by, for example, making adjustments to its infrastructure, providing guidelines regarding simple daily reflexes that we all need to cultivate in order not to give energy wasting and climate polluting activities a chance.

Giving back to the society: The firm values its success, it is the result of focused and thorough work, continuing to educate itself and working constantly to improve and excel in its services. A characteristic that unites all of us in the firm is not letting success blind one to giving back to society. Pro-bono work is done and various projects are set up to assist the needy. So, the skills at our disposal are definitely being utilised to make a difference in that too.
