Remco Bernaerdts
Associate
Remco Bernaerdts is part of the Corporate & Finance Practice Group and the firm’s Africa Desk.
Remco assists the firm’s public and private clients on multi-jurisdictional, cross-border transactions and projects in Central Africa, particularly in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda. He focuses on all aspects of corporate law, M&A and joint ventures, with a background (and keen interest) in regulatory law as well. He has developed a particular expertise in the mining, energy and telecom sectors as well as the investment funds industry.
Remco also advises on Belgian and European telecommunications law.
Remco holds a law degree from the KU Leuven and an LL.M. from the University of Virginia. He has also received a special degree in OHADA law from the Université Paris 2 Panthéon-Assas and Université Paris 13.
Remco is a teaching assistant at the KU Leuven’s Institute for Comparative Law. He also lectures on the DRC mining sector and legislation to geologists and engineers pursuing the Emerald Master in Georesources Engineering at the University of Liège.
Prior to joining Liedekerke, Remco worked for almost three years at an American law firm where he was active in antitrust, state aid and FDI. He joined Liedekerke in 2022. Since January 2024, Remco is based in Liedekerke’s Kinshasa office (Liedekerke DRC SASU).
