
Jean Pierre Kesteloot
Counsel
Jean Pierre Kesteloot specialises in aviation and transport law (including shipping and railway) and insurance law. He acquired in-depth experience in these fields while working on numerous litigation cases on behalf of Belgian and foreign insurers and carriers.
He is the author of several publications, primarily on transport law and insurance law, including a reference book on transport law (Larcier, 2020). He teaches transport insurance law at UCLouvain FUCaM (Mons).
He holds a master’s degree in from the University of Louvain (UCL 1999). During his education he took part in an exchange program at the Université de Bourgogne, Dijon, France. In addition he holds a master’s degree in aerospace law and maritime law (ULB 2003).
Jean Pierre is a member of the Brussels Bar since 2000 and joined Liedekerke in 2015.

Advising and representing Iberia before the Belgian courts in the context of passenger claims based on the Regulation (EC) No 261/2004 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 11 February 2004 establishing common rules on compensation and assistance to passengers in the event of denied boarding and of cancellation or long delay of flights.
Representing Iberia in court in relation to a claim by a travel agent regarding the recovery of compensations the travel agent paid out to customers over various years as a result of different flight incidents on Iberia flights (delays, cancellations and downgrades).
Advised and assisted BCA Europe Transport Solutions with the gathering and assessment of the status of the implementation of the Mobility Package.
Advised and assisted SNCB in several matters in the past months, amongst others:
Advised Eurostar's shareholders CDPQ and Patina (a consortium CDPQ and Hermes Infrastructure), in relation to all Belgian aspects of the merger between Eurostar and Thalys.
Assisted Brussels Airlines, Belgium’s national airline, in relation to Thomas Cook Belgium’s bankruptcy.
Assisting Brussels Airlines in legal proceedings before the French-speaking Enterprise Court of Brussels against its former component support service provider, Sabena Aerospace Engineering, as a consequence of the contract termination amidst the covid-crisis.
Assisting Uber with different matters since 2015
Assisting LM Belgium in the further implementation of the change of the joint committee and the negotiations with the trade unions.
